The most prestigious kudos for films in India – the National Awards – were announced this afternoon. The jury declared the Malayalam movie
Adaminte Makan Abu as Best Film and Vetrimaran as Best Director for the Tamil film
Aadukalam, while Salman Khan’s
Dabangg won the prize for Wholesome Entertainment.
The Best Actress award has been shared between Mitali Jagtap Varadkar for
Babuu Band Bajaa (Marathi) and Saranya Ponvannan for
Thenmerkku Paruvakkatru (Tamil). Ailing actor Rajinikanth’s son-in-law Dhanush took home the Best Actor award for
Aadukalam, sharing it with
Salim Kumar who won it for
Adamante Makan Abu. Vishal Bhardwaj’s score for
Ishqiya bagged him the award for Best Music Director (Songs) while his wife Rekha won Best Playback Singer – quite a musical family, this! The Rishi and Neetu Kapoor-starrer
Do Dooni Chaar has been voted Best Hindi Film. To that, an elated member of Planman Motion Pictures said that they were surprised by the result, especially because there was no lobbying done or any extra effort involved to make it to the nominations list.
